NCP has no affiliation with two student advisers: Nahid

Shawdesh desk;

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said that the party has no affiliation with the two student advisers currently serving in the interim government.

He made the remarks at a press conference held at the party’s temporary central office in the capital’s Banglamotor on Saturday.

Referring to the political involvement of Advisers Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam, Nahid said, “If they want to do politics or run for election, they cannot do that while remaining in government. In that case, they must step down and make their own decisions.”

“They (the two student advisers) joined the government at the time as representatives of the mass uprising. I was with them then. But if they now wish to pursue politics or contest in elections, they cannot do so from within the government,” he reiterated.

NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said, “We are noticing signs of a repeat of One-Eleven in Bangladesh politics. The aspirations that led the people to participate in the uprising now seem to be on the verge of failure. There is growing uncertainty over every issue important to the people – from elections and reforms to justice.”

Also present at the press conference were NCP’s Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, and Chief Organiser (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah.
